about

The lyrics for 'How To Dig A Hole' are all based on advice and catchphrases my Father used to tell me when I was growing up. When my dad was down on his luck for a while, I thought that he could use some of the wisdom he had instilled in me for so many years, so I tried to serve it back to him the best way I know how. The piece of advice that I constantly use still to this day is that; whenever you are bombarded with things to do, questions to ask and you have no idea what you should do you should dig a hole. To dig a hole you have to start somewhere, so why not start with the easiest thing you can think of to start the ball rolling.

LYRICS

When I was a young boy
My Father said to me
Enjoy your life now
Because it stops once your eighteen
Two-thirds of your life
You spend working so you get paid
And the last third is completely yours
For you to waste away

You gotta be a man son
Provide for your family
Your Mother always said
You can be just what you want to be
Twenty odd years
Working for the factory
And if I ticked all of their boxes
Maybe they'd get rid of me

I'm amazed that I still wake up
In the morning I'm feeling drunk
And when I feel that I've had enough
I turn round and see your look

I guess we make our own luck
Been trying to find what is what but
I still need your help to figure this out
Figure it out

(You gotta figure it out now)

And I'm amazed that we still wake up
In the morning I'm feeling drunk
And when I feel that I've been down on my luck
I say "I just need a little bit of love"

I guess we make our own luck
Been trying to find what is what but
I still need your help to figure this world out

(You gotta start somewhere to dig a hole)
You gotta start somewhere

These are things that I've been told
I can feel them in my soul
You taught me how to dig a hole
You taught me how to dig a hole
When I start getting old
I'll tell my son I know
I'll teach him how to dig a hole
I'll teach him how to dig a hole
